Category

First, a category correction

Bombora and Amplify ABM Intel are not the same kind of product, and comparing them straight across does neither any favors.

Bombora describes itself as a data company, not a platform. Its Company Surge intent data is derived from a cooperative of B2B publishers, brand sites, and data providers. Company Surge Analytics also gives customers direct access to those insights, while more than 100 integrations can place the data into CRM, sales, marketing, and advertising workflows.

Amplify ABM Intel is a monitoring and delivery layer. It watches your target accounts, decides what is worth a rep's attention, and puts it in Slack with the evidence attached.

So the real question is not “which tool is better.” It is what kind of information changes rep behavior.

Intent data

What intent data tells you, and what it does not

Topic-level intent data says: research activity in a topic category is elevated at this company relative to its baseline, across a publisher network, over some recent window.

Bombora positions that information for account prioritization and for tailoring sales and marketing messages to the subjects an account is researching. It can be useful at scale.

For a rep, the topic gives relevant context but does not identify a person or report a specific business event. Outreach can reference the subject responsibly; it should not claim that a known buyer took a known action.

Amplify ABM Intel supplies a different input: a named event that can support a specific, source-backed opening.

Signals

What a signal is

A signal is an observable business event with a date and a source. The company announced a 200-person reduction. They closed a Series C. They named a new CRO who came from a company where you already have a customer. They acquired a competitor. They posted eight roles in a function you sell into, in one week.

These are facts, not probabilities. Your rep can click the source article. They can reference the event in the first line of an email without hedging. And the event itself usually tells them what to say — a new CRO in month one is evaluating the stack; a layoff opens a cost and transition conversation; a funding round opens a spend conversation.

One more thing that intent data structurally cannot do: signals stack. A leadership change is really two signals — the new seat, and where that leader came from. If they arrived from a company you already sell to, that is not a cold account anymore. Anonymous topic surges do not carry that kind of relational information.

The full breakdown of the 23 signal types and how they differ from intent data is here.

The honest part

Which one you should actually buy

These are not competing use cases. Plenty of teams should run both — intent to decide where to spend, signals to decide when a rep picks up the phone.

Choose Bombora if

You are prioritizing spend across a large account universe

  • You are running paid programs at scale and need to prioritize spend across a large universe of accounts.
  • You already own a platform that consumes intent data well and you want to enrich it.
  • Your target universe is thousands of accounts, not hundreds, and you need statistical prioritization rather than event-level detail.
  • You want one research signal to support both marketing prioritization and more relevant sales messaging.
Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between intent data and buying signals?

Intent data infers interest from anonymous research behavior — an elevated volume of content consumption in a topic category, attributed to an account rather than a person. Buying signals are observable business events: layoffs, funding rounds, leadership changes, acquisitions, hiring surges. Intent data suggests an account might be in-market. A signal tells you something specific happened, on a specific date, with a source you can verify.

Is Bombora a good alternative to 6sense or Demandbase?

Not directly — they are different layers. Bombora supplies intent data; 6sense and Demandbase are platforms that consume and act on data, including in some cases Bombora's. If you are replacing a platform, compare platforms. If you are replacing a data source, compare data sources.

Do I need both intent data and signal intelligence?

Many teams benefit from both, and they answer different questions. Intent data helps marketing decide where to allocate attention across a large account universe. Signal intelligence helps a rep decide when to act on a specific account and what to open with. If budget forces a choice, the answer depends on whether your bottleneck is targeting or timing.

How much does Amplify ABM Intel cost?

Plans start at $199 per month for Scout (50 accounts, 5 signal types) and run to $999 per month for Ops Center (500 accounts, all 23 signal types), with custom Enterprise pricing above that. Every plan includes unlimited seats. Bombora does not publish standard prices.

What signal types does Amplify ABM Intel monitor?

23 standard types across six categories: Pain and Disruption (layoffs, revenue decline, office closures), Risk Intelligence (data breaches, regulatory actions), Growth (funding, revenue growth, expansion, partnerships), Strategic Changes (leadership changes, acquisitions, mergers, divestitures, major client updates), Hiring (surges, freezes, key roles, department expansion, new market entry), and Website Visitors (high-intent visits, first visits, multi-contact visits, repeat visitors).
